Labial rejuvenation is typically performed as an outpatient procedure, which means you can go home the same day. The surgery can be performed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia and usually takes 1-2 hours. During the preoperative consultation, Dr. Arun Jeedi will choose which sort of anesthesia is ideal for you.
There are two types of procedures that can be used for labial rejuvenation:
Trim procedure: This is the most common type of labial rejuvenation surgery. In this procedure, the excess tissue is removed and the remaining skin is sutured together.
Wedge procedure: In this procedure, a triangular piece of tissue is removed from the thickest part of the labia. The submucosa (layer tissue beneath a mucous membrane) is left intact, allowing the wrinkled border of the labia to remain after suturing. This gives a more natural appearance to the labia.
After your labiaplasty surgery, you will likely experience some swelling and bruising. You will also have some pain and discomfort. Dr. Arun will prescribe you pain medication and antibiotics to help you manage your symptoms. Long baths should be avoided, and the wound should be patted dry after every wash. It is also important that you don’t wear tight clothing or undergarments, since they cause friction against the wound. Also, you must refrain from sexual activity for at least four weeks. Other physical activities, such as biking and running, should also be avoided during this time.
