Droopy eyelid, or ptosis, is a condition in which the eyelid droops down over the eye. The condition can be present at birth (congenital ptosis) or acquired later in life. Ptosis can affect one or both eyelids.
Congenital ptosis is usually due to a problem with the development of the muscles that lift the eyelid. It can also be caused by a problem with the nerve that controls these muscles.
Acquired ptosis is often due to ageing, sun damage, injury, or other conditions that weaken the muscles or nerves that control the eyelid.
Droopy eyelids can cause functional problems with vision if it is severe enough to block the pupil. It can also affect a person’s appearance.
Blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery involves removing excess skin, fat, and even muscle in order to reduce sagging and smoothen out lines and wrinkles. This procedure can be performed on both the upper and lower eyelids, and can be customized to each patient’s individual needs and goals. Eyelid surgery enhances the look and features of your eyes and improves vision.
The best candidates for this procedure are those who have excess skin, fat, or muscle that is causing sagging or wrinkles around the eyes. People with drooping eyelids (ptosis) or bags underneath their eyes can experience a variety of symptoms caused by their condition. The most common problem associated with these issues is difficulty seeing clearly, as the extra skin on the upper eyelids blocks your vision. Other symptoms include excessive tearing, headaches, and burning or itching in the eyes.
If you are experiencing any of these problems due to excess skin on your upper eyelids, blepharoplasty may be a good choice for you. This procedure can restore your vision by removing the excess skin and fat from your upper eyelids.
Patients who are in good overall health and have realistic expectations for the results of surgery are typically good candidates for eyelid surgery. Eyelid surgery can be performed on both men and women of all ages, but is most often performed on patients in their 40s, 50s, and 60s.
Book AppointmentAlthough blepharoplasty is typically performed for cosmetic purposes, it can also be used to restore function to the eyes.
Upper Eyelid Blepharoplasty: Upper blepharoplasties may be performed for functional reasons, for example, when excess fat, orbicularis muscle hypertrophy or laxities, skin laxity, and lash ptosis may cause the patient’s visual field to be affected. You can also consider having upper eyelid surgery if you want to look younger. It can help you get rid of sagging eyelids and fat deposits around your eyes.
Lower Eyelid Blepharoplasty: Lower eyelid surgery or lower eyelid surgery is performed for cosmetic reasons. Lower eyelid blepharoplasty eliminates issues such as fat bulges in the lower eyelid, and extra sagging skin, and helps to improve one’s appearance dramatically.
During the consultation at Recon Plastic Surgery Centre, Hubli, Dr. Arun Jeedi will talk to the patient about his/her medical history, including any prior facial surgeries or conditions like allergies, dry eyes, or glaucoma and perform a physical exam.He will also ask questions about any medications or supplements that the patient might be taking. This will help decide whether the patient needs eyelid surgery for cosmetic reasons or functional purposes. Dr. Arun Jeedi will take pictures of the patient’s eye from different angles to plan the surgery.
The surgery itself involves removing excess skin, fat, and muscle from the upper and/or lower eyelids to create a more youthful appearance. The incisions that are used in the procedure will be hidden along the natural contours of your eyelids so that they are not visible following surgery. The incisions are closed with very small stitches.
Depending on your individual plan, the Blepharoplasty may be performed in the office or in operating room. If you are only planning on the removal of excess skin, Dr. Arun Jeedi will use local anesthesia and perform the procedure in the office. If, however, you need removal of excess fat pockets and/or combine this procedure with other surgery you will undergo sedation and Dr. Arun Jeedi will perform the procedure in an operating room.
The cost of eyelid surgery in Hubli will be determined at the OPD consultation, after the surgeon has assessed the case, and understood the goals and desires of the patient. Blepharoplasty cost may differ depending on various factors like the type of procedure, and the technique used.
If the blepharoplasty is solely performed for cosmetical reasons, then insurance won’t cover the cost of the procedure. However, if proof is submitted showing visual loss or some other functional reason, then the insurance may pay for the repair.
